Subject: Resend with Press Release from OCDE. A Report from your Orange County Board of Education Trustee
Kính chúc qúy vị và gia đình luôn an mạnh.
Kính thư,
TS Phạm Kim Long

Orange County Board Of Education Elects New Officers
COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA, July 21, 2011 -- At the regular meeting of the Orange County Board of Education on July 21, 2011, new officers for fiscal year 2011-2012 were elected. Elizabeth Parker, was elected President of the Board and Long Pham, Ph.D., was elected Vice President.
The Orange County Board of Education consists of five lay members who represent the five trustee areas of the county. Board members are elected for a four-year term by the electors of the trustee area which they represent. From among its members, the Board elects a president and a vice president.
Mrs. Parker was first elected to the Orange County Board of Education in June, 1982. Since that time, she has worked with both the National and California School Board Associations on several committees and in several leadership capacities. She has served on the Federal Relations Network for the National School Boards Association - working with our nationally elected leaders since 1983. For the California Schools Board she has served on the Finance, Legislative, and Annual Conference Committees. For the California County Boards of Education has served as President, President-elect and Vice-President. She has chaired the annual joint conference committee in 1999. Locally, she was the President of the Orange County School Boards Association--she has also held the offices of Vice President of Programs and President-elect. Elizabeth is a 2002 recipient of the Marian Bergeson Award presented to her by her school board peers for her distinguished service as a member of the Orange County Board of Education.
In addition, Liz had been very involved in local community groups and in the classrooms as a volunteer. She has been past president of the youth pony league and on the board of directors for the Newport Harbor High School Foundation as well as on the board for the NHHS Baseball Boosters and NHHS Football Boosters.
Dr. Pham is a leader of the engineering community and former Vice President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Dr. Long Pham was elected Trustee of the Orange County Board of Education for the four year term 2008-2012.
Long Pham serves as a nuclear engineer at Southern California Edison since 1992, and runs his family engineering consulting business in Newport Beach since 1989. At the former Space System Division of Rockwell International in Downey, Long was a Senior Project Manager and Member of the Technical Staff where his last accomplishment was conducting the final certification of America’s newest space shuttle, the Endeavour. Prior to this, he worked for Ralph M. Parsons Company and Bechtel Corporation as a Senior Engineer serving the Architects Engineers Industry both in America and overseas.
As a young immigrant who spoke no English when he arrived to America in 1975, Long took his first job as a domestic worker and babysitter for the first few months to learn English. He was then hired as a teacher’s aide by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and later as a Lab Assistant at the Pennsylvania State University’s engineering laboratory.
In addition to his marine engineering background from Vietnam, Long Pham holds a BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Engineering and Engineering Management. He owes America a big favor for transforming a young Vietnamese sailor into a successful engineer and a leader of ASME, the largest engineering society in America. Dr. Pham believes the same opportunity or better shall be available to each and every one of our children, and will work hard to make it happen.
